Hello, I'm Donna! Originally from New York, but currently living in Fleming Island, Florida, I'm a classically trained fine artist who holds a Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design. I began freelancing under the art studio name of JeanAlan Design in 1999 while gaining killer experience working full-time in many in-house art departments throughout New York City. Some of my career stops included: the greeting card industry, textile design, packaging, global marketing and even a healthcare dot com start-up! I'm a fortunate chick to have a career spanning two decades in a field that I love. In my downtime, I travel and hike mountains to combine my love of photography with the outdoors. I also volunteer my time and talent to local non-profits and occasionally helicopter parent my teenage son without deliberately trying to lose my mind in the process. Read more about my personal history with the art world.
JeanAlan Design (JAD) was an idea hatched from a daydream during a very dry, college level art history class. (No, it's not French in origin but I do love hearing all the fun ways individuals try to prounounce it!) Two college students named Donna Jean, and James Alan, pondered what it would be like to work for themselves after college graduation. With a few freelance clients and a pile of money saved to purchase a Macintosh computer, the little art studio slowly became the creative outlet for two young graphic designers who craved a way to freely express their raw talent in the big, bad, New York City.
Fast forward to 2000, and a relocation to Virginia Beach, Virginia, and JAD was ready to hire its first employee. Quickly experiencing exponential growth in the first two years, the company grew to 9 people by expanding into the local cities of Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Hampton, Portsmouth and Williamsburg.
Sadly, after the events of 9/11, the economic climate forced JAD to restructure the business. James departed to pursue other opportunities while Donna decided to dig in and downsize to just one person - herself!
At the time, by focusing less on traditional print media and more on custom website development and hosting, Donna was able to maintain success in a highly competitive Hampton Roads, VA marketplace.
In February of 2009, the military brought Donna to northern, Florida. The Jacksonville area of the Sunshine State has offered JAD many new challenges and opportunities such as returning to producing more traditional print marketing material as well as, growing a completely new arm to the business with professional photography services.
